The objective of this work is to contribute to generalize a system of methods for the development of cognitive independence using the web 4.0, to optimize the management of higher education processes. The University of Guayaquil is used as a research unit in the Pediatrics subject of the fifth year of the medical degree. The methods used were the theoretical systematization with analysis and synthesis, documentary analysis and observation and the practical survey. The results show that the construction of meta-analysis as part of the autonomous work of medical students, using virtual learning environments strengthens the teaching-learning process. The system of methods for cognitive activity, develops a process of actions based on motivation, using the guiding base for action, which allows the execution of actions and operations through the construction of meta-analysis in Health Sciences, leading to abstraction processes and to generate trans disciplinary constructs, capable of solving emerging prototypical problems in Health. The system of methods for cognitive activity, using virtual learning environments, allows autonomous learning capable of strengthening the training and modes of professional performance of medical students.
