ALVARADO VELEZ, Julio Adrián; UBE OLVERA, Jennifer Mabel; VEGA CARRILLO, Diego Francisco y UNDA GARZON, Martha Eugenia. Impact of local production on rural economic and territorial development. Evidence from Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.4, pp. 213-217. Epub 02-Ago-2020. ISSN 2218-3620.
The creation of dynamic competitive advantages demands the deployment of local economic development initiatives or undertakings, as well as joint work between the different actors and institutions to achieve the goals set from the microeconomic level. In this framework, the impact of the artisanal candy industry on the local development of a rural parish in Ecuador is investigated through a mixed descriptive-exploratory investigation. The findings suggest that, despite the fact that this industry generates utility for companies and employment for the population, its impact has been limited and it has not been able to contribute fully to local development. It is concluded that the development of public programs could promote an integral development of the territory.
