OLIVA MERENCIO, Deny y PEREDA REYES, Ileana. Biogas and sustainability in Cuba. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp. 597-609. Epub 02-Abr-2022. ISSN 2218-3620.
Cuba maintains a deep commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals that make up the 2030 Agenda of the UN, and this has been reflected in the National Plan for Economic and Social Development of the country towards 2030, based on the consolidation of the social economic model and the guidelines of the economic and social policy of the Party and the Revolution, ratified and verified at the VIII Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba. In all these guiding documents of the socioeconomic life of the Cuban nation, the strategic axes and priorities for the achievement of a prosperous and sustainable socialism in the coming years are established. Anaerobic technologies have played, in several parts of the world, an important role in achieving goals that characterize sustainability. This paper attempts to demonstrate the role that biogas producing technologies can play within the framework of the socialist society that Cuba has decided to build. The features that characterize anaerobic technologies and their direct link with sustainable development are presented, as well as the contribution they can have in the solution of several problems that our country presents in the energetic, environmental, social and economic aspects.
