The influence of world globalization has a direct impact on the way in which institutions, companies and governments design, plan and carry out their activities, having in common the impossibility of conceiving actions in isolation, but rather in close connection with the actors that they contribute to the achievement of its ends. The development of agricultural activity, and within it, pig production, does not escape this reality. It is necessary to carry out transformations in the forms of economic organization, insert technological advances in their processes and develop strategies to adapt to production challenges that meet market demands. The objective of the study is to argue the opportunities, particularities and possible impacts that the formation of a pig cluster in the Placetas municipality can generate to increase pig production, adjusted to the characteristics of this locality and counting on the cooperation between the actors involved. The theoretical foundations of the cluster as a cooperation modality, its essential characteristics and the advantages of its application are addressed. Additionally, the challenges and the possibility of inserting into practice, the results of scientific and innovative activity, for the achievement of this purpose, are assessed and the impacts that it could report in the economic, social and environmental order are discussed. It was concluded that the strategy of creating a swine cluster can be considered a way to increase production, promote joint collaboration between the university, the business network and governments, the results of which benefit local development.
