GONZALEZ AROCHA, Boris; PIERI SILVA, Kirenia  y  LEDESMA CANELLAS, Bárbara. Closure of an Upper Middline Diastema. A Case Treated Using a Multidisciplinary Approach: Computed Tomographic Characteristics and Outcome. Rev. Finlay [online]. 2015, vol.5, n.4, pp. 275-284. ISSN 2221-2434.

Dental and maxillofacial abnormalities constitute an oral health problem that has increased in recent decades. Identification and treatment of their causative factors in early ages represent a challenge for dentists and especially orthodontists. The case of 39-year-old patient who attended consultation due to an upper midline diastema of 9mm is presented. On clinical examination, periodontal disease, occlusal abnormalities, exostoses and mandibular tori were found. She was referred to the multidisciplinary dental consultation where a treatment plan to control the periodontal disease was established. After a successful surgery, fixed orthodontic appliances were placed and the diastema was reduced to 3 mm. Closure was completed by means of a light-curing resin. A Hawley-type removable retainer was used for 5 years to maintain the treatment performed.

Palabras clave : diastema; tooth abnormalities; maxillofacial abnormalities; jaw abnormalities; malocclusion; exostoses; case reports.
