RIVAS ESTANY, Eduardo y DE LA NOVAL GARCIA, Reinaldo. Obesity in Cuba and other regions of the World. General considerations and national prevention actions. Anales de la ACC [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.1 Epub 30-Ago-2021. ISSN 2304-0106.
Overweight and obesity, as well as related noncommunicable diseases, are largely preventable by promoting individual responsibility for a healthy lifestyle. To guarantee healthy eating, national actions have been established in Cuba through the link between food health, sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty, which are described in the text. To reduce the complications and mortality associated with obesity and overweight in Cuba, a comprehensive, multisectoral approach is required, aimed at facilitating greater consumption of nutritious foods and increasing physical activity, which would be achieved through joint actions by state institutions that include the Health and Agriculture sectors, among others. It is necessary to continue strengthening multidisciplinary programs of food and nutritional education, as well as the systematic practice of physical exercises to promote healthy lifestyle habits and thereby achieve the reduction of overweight and obesity in the Cuban population.
