In 1990, 23 garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris Lin) varieties were brought to Cuba through an agreement with INRA from France, which were later evaluated at Liliana Dimitrova Horticultural Research Institute and compared with the commercial ones. LIVER surpassed the 22 French varieties and the six Cubans known for their excellent yields and quality.
