FERRAZ TELLEZ, Yovanis; PERMUY ABELEIRA, Nénsida  y  ACOSTA ROCA, Rosa. Evaluation of differents accessions of maize (Zea mays, L.) in two zones of Gibara, Holguin, under drought conditions. Morphoagronomic and genotype x environmet interaction evaluation studies. cultrop [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.4, pp. 24-30. ISSN 0258-5936.

In Holguin, Cuba, maize (Zea mays, L.) is mainly grown in the winter season, the period of lowest levels of rainfall in the year. This kind of management, together with the poor availability of dry-weather resistant materials has contributed to a decrease in the yields of this cereal in the last few years. For this reason and due to the necessity of having cultivars that adapt to these conditions, the present work is intended to evaluate 20 accessions of maize, including accession Gibara as a local witness, under drought conditions in two edafoclimatics areas of Gibara municipality in Holguín. These accessions were evaluated considering their morphological traits (vegetative component and yield) and on this base, the effect of the genotype x environment interaction was studied in two areas of this municipality, using an AMMI (additive main multiplied interactions) analysis. It was possible to determine those accessions that showed good genetic stability in the two areas studied, e.g. accessions: 26, 44, 46, 106, 125 and the local witness, what allows recommending them as the best adapted for the dry weather conditions in Gibara municipality.

Palabras clave : maize; drought; genotype environment interaction.
