From 90s, la concepción de la salud mental en Cuba has been reoriented from hospital institutions to a more community care with family involvement and of the community itself. It has been necessary to design study program in mental health allowing having a more integral practice of nursing professionals and that these have knowledges, abilities, and attitudes allowing making changes in performance mode. Four workshops were carried out with research staff linked with a approved project by branch program of research in health system and services from which was designed the program of Nursing specialty in mental health through competences, tasks were established, and for the first time, the relation among abilities, contents, and competences that will be the foundation for design of specialists assessment tools.
