Objective: to analyze the curriculum of the integral general dentistry specialty to encourage its improvement. Methods: systemic and structural analysis and synthesis, documentary review, expert criteria. The upgrading consisted of several phases from the summons of the academic committee to the re-design of the different modules. Results: the re-definition of professional problems, the updating and reorganization of contents were underlined; the primary care module in orthodontics replaced the care for under 19 years-old patient II module. The integral care to the older patient module was designed, and there was included the presentation of some literature reviews made by residents in the review article format. Conclusions: the new curriculum keeps the modular didactic structure and the formation at work; the contents were similarly updated and reorganized. The changes put into practice will guarantee the quality in the formation of this type of health professional.
