Resumen

BAUZA FORTUNATO, Yaumary; GONGORA TORRES, Juan Carlos; VEITIA ROVIROSA, Zucell Ana  y  ROJAS RONDON, Irene. Bilateral cryptophthalmos. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.2, pp. 332-338. ISSN 1561-3070.

Cryptophthalmos comes from a congenital defect in the neural crest migration that gives rise to abnormal development of eyelids and of the anterior ocular structures.  Here is the case of a male 6 months-old infant with cryptophthalmos. The ophthalmological exam revealed eyelid agenesis. The infant´s skin went down from the forehead, passing over the eyeball up to the cheek, but the eyelid architecture was absent. The rest of the facial structures were normal. The diagnosis was based on the medical history and some tests as the ocular echography, the orbit and cranial computerized tomography and other studies which confirm the diagnosis.

Palabras clave : cryptophthalmos; ablepharia; congenital palpebral anomalies.
