WONG VAZQUEZ, Lester; LABRADA GONZALEZ, Elsy  y  GOMEZ, Nancy Clara Verano. Characterization of the consumption of licit and illicit substances in university students. Conrado [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.77, pp. 423-431.  Epub 02-Dic-2020. ISSN 1990-8644.

Drug consumption is an issue of negative impact on society, a psychosocial problem that represents high human, economic and social costs. The objective was to characterize the consumption of licit and illicit substances in university students and thus determine the type of intervention needed. A descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was constituted by the total of students enrolled in the academic levels from first to tenth. The sample included 282 students. The technique used was the survey and the instrument applied was the ASSIST test. As a result, it was obtained that 66% of the students included in the sample consumed tobacco and in 77.4% there was coincidence between tobacco and alcohol consumption. In relation to the consumption of other licit and illicit substances, the highest percentage (96.8% - 99.3%) did not consume amphetamines, inhalants. The study showed that the consumption of licit and illicit substances in the study was low, although it was expected to be zero. Only patients who consumed tobacco and alcohol needed some kind of brief intervention and a low percentage needed intensive treatment for alcohol consumption.
