The political analysis academic essay constitutes an evaluative tool insufficiently used by the professors of the Department of Military Education of the University of Cienfuegos, Cuba. The investigation carried out by the authors showed that the causes of this shortcoming are found in the cognitive and methodological limitations that many of them have, since they are unaware of the advantages of this type of text to evaluate students. Consequently, their potentialities are wasted to conduit the concerns that, from political science, students express when receiving the contents of the National Security subject. It is not taken into account that this method requires the exposure of opinions and own reflections in the students, which enhances deep sociocultural, political and ideological assessments that contribute to collective intelligence. The understanding of this discursive form, as an evaluative tool, marks a notable influence in the ideological political work and in the process of individual improvement of the teacher; it helps develop skills in political analysis, oral and written expression, and self-improvement. Exposing its potentialities, as an evaluative method in the National Security subject, is the purpose of this work, distinctive of other discursive forms in the development of communication skills
