The prevalence of domestic mites in our province and the sensitization to other types of mites like the ones existing in storage were studied in 30 allergic asthmatic patients whose skin reactivity results, after application of 8 mite allergen extracts by using the Prick test and other conjunctival provocation tests, were evaluated. There was a high statistical significance for domestic mites Dermatophagoides compared with storage mites. There was also a high statistical significance for mites Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. Skin reactivity of the allergic population was very significant, which means sit is related to a high prevalence of allergic diseases in Cienfuegos and to sensitization of our patients to the seemingly most common domestic air allergens Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, farinae and Blomia tropicalis.
