The postoperative acute myocardial infarction is one of the determinants of postoperative morbimortality in cardiac surgery and it is relatively common. As a result of the surgical procedure, the classic clinical, electrocardiographic and enzimatic criteria lose efficiency and, therefore, they cannot be applied as usual. The biochemical markers for this complication, their values and criteria of application to this particular population group are reviewed.
