Resumen

BORROTO DIAZ, Gerardo; BARCELO ACOSTA, Malicela  y  GUERRERO DIAZ, Carlos. Infección por citomegalovirus en pacientes con injerto renal. Rev cubana med [online]. 2003, vol.42, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.

The clinical and therapeutical behavior of the infections due to cytomegaloviruses was reviewed in 14 patients with kidney transplants. The diagnosis was made taking into account the increase of at least 4 times of the IgG titers and the positive results of IgM in the presence of a clinical picture compatible with this infection. It was proved the appearance of sepsis in the period from 1 to 5 months of evolution of the transplant in 1 patient (7.1 %), whereas 6 (42.9 %), 4 (28.6 %) and 3 (21.4 %) were among 6, 13 and 36 months of graft life, respectively. Fever and general symptoms were the most frequent clinical manifestations, accounting for 14 (100 and 25 %); followed by graft dysfunction and the digestive symptoms in 6 patients (42.9 and 10.6 %); leukopenia, 5 (357 and 8.9 %); respiratory symptoms and transaminitis, 4 (28.6 and 7.1 %); and thrombopenia, 3 (21.4 and 5.5 %). The percentages corresponded to the total of patients and symptoms, respectively. The concomitance with other opportunistic diseases and the response to the treatment with ganciclovir, with which 8 patients evolved satisfactorily (57.14 %), 2 (14.29 %) lost the graft function and 4 (28.57 %) died, were considered. It was concluded that the infection due to cytomegalovirus is frequent and dangerous in patients with kidney graft.

Palabras clave : KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION [adverse efects]; OPPORTUNISTIC INFECTIONS [drug therapy]; CYTOMEGALOVIRUS INFECTIONS [diagnosis]; CYTOMEGALOVIRUS INFECTIONS [drug therapy]; GANCICLOVIR [therapeutic use].
