The control of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) improves considerably the quality of life of the patients receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy and it is a fundamental milestone in the treatment of these patients. The objective of this article was to establish recommendations for to attention of patients with CINV.The guides of clinical practice available at the international level and the MEDLINE database were reviewed from 1999 to 2005. All the searches were critically evaluated by at least three of the authors, who identified the references to be included in the final list. For a recommendation to be accepted, a consensus of at least 75 % of the panel of authors was necessary. This guide examines pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment in the prevention of emesis according to categories, to the treatment used in special situations and to the management of the refractory emesis.
