Resumen

GARCIA DELGADO, José A. et al. Therapeutic effects of physical exercise on arterial hypertension. Rev cubana med [online]. 2008, vol.47, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.

The CIMEQ's General Program of Physical Conditioning, with an exercise plan based on aerobic activities carried out as a minimum 3 times a week, according to the functional capacity shown in every case, was used to evaluate the impact of the application of this physical training system on the control of arterial pressure. 112 individuals that fulfilled the admission criteria established (arterial pressure > 140/90 and < 180/110 mmHg without damage of the target organ) were selected. 47 were males and 65 were females. The average age was 49 ± 8.4. The individuals were first subjected to a complete physical examination with special emphasis on the cardiorespiratory system. A morphofunctional and metabolic evaluation was made at the beginning of the program and 6 months after its implementation. A significant change was found in the following parameters: the average level of blood pressure decreased from 145/95 to 133/88 at rest and from 163/105 to 148/95 at submaximal exercises; heart rate from 78.4 to 73.9 beatings/min (basal) and from 137.1 to 127.6 (the submaximal); body weight from 78.9 to 76.0; body fat percentage from 33.5 to 31.2 %; and body mass index from 27.2 to 25.9 kg/m2 of body surface. VO2 Max increased from 30.9 to 34.4 mL O2/kg/min. Improvements were observed in the hematological profile with trends toward hypertension in some parameters; glycemia lowered from 5.63 to 5.35 mmol/L; total cholesterol from 5.85 to 5.40 mmol/L, tryglicerides from 2.13 to 1.79, HDL from 0.8 to 0.94 and creatinin from 98 to 94.

Palabras clave : Risk factors; physical training programs; physical capacity.
