Introduction:
Atherosclerosis is a complex disease, as old as man, whom it accompanies from conception to death.
Objective:
To describe the behavior of diseases resulting from atherosclerosis.
Methods:
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from 2016 to 2019.
Results:
Heart diseases predominated, 175 (22.6 %) of the surveyed individuals were diagnosed with some type of them. 54.3 % (95 patients) had been diagnosed with heart disease. A family history of peripheral arterial disease also predominated (243 for 31.4 %). Cardiovascular diseases had the highest risk associated with arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia as risk factors and in relation to the other resulting diseases, all had a high associated risk, as well as with family history of cardiovascular disease.
Conclusions:
The behavior of the resulting diseases due to atherosclerosis was described. Cardiovascular diseases presented a high risk associated with most of the risk factors.
