The infection affected 58.3 % and it was less frequent that in other age groups. Multiple organ failure (48 %) was higher than that observed in other papers, whereas malignant tumors and violent death accounted for 20 % and 11.4 %, respectively. The main causes of direct death were: pulmonary edema and bronchopneumonia; and the basic ones were hypertension, atherosclerosis and burns. The clinical and morphological diagnostic coincidence in the basic causes was 66 %. The noncoincidence in the direct causes was 34.5 %.
