CANIZARES GRAUPERA, María Elena; CARRAL NOVO, Juan Mariano; ARTEAGA, Ernesto y RAMOS DORMIDO, Gladis. Acute toxicological in vivo study of surgical adhesives with cyanoacrylic base. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.
The evaluation of adhesives with cyanoacrylic base was made by adapting a model that is used in the evaluation of cytostatic drugs and that combines different techniques and specialties, physiology of the animals, enzymology and histology. The aim was to have a more complete evaluation that takes into consideration the contact of the adhesives with blood, with a minimum of experimental animals. The evaluation of the blood tissue is vital in internal applications to determine interactions with the system, effects on the immunological system and toxicity due to absorption. The results show that this combination of techniques makes possible to analyze a higher number of parameters in a same animal, that the model is applicable to the particular case of adhesives and that the inclusion of the histopathological study to reduce the amount of animals is specially useful. A siginficant gain of the thyroids' weight on applying histoacryl as well as of the kidney with the use of tisuacryl, the appearance of microcalcifications in renal tubules in one of the animals treated with tisuacryl and the rise of the values of TGO among the animals treated with both products, were detected in the trial.
