MENENDEZ LOPEZ, José Rogelio; INFANTE VELAZQUEZ, Mirtha; MORENO PUEBLA, Reynol Arturo  y  DE LA FUENTE BECEIRO, Carlos. Assessment of the health status of the Revolutionary Armed Forces officer: requirement for a change of approach. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

This paper set forth the criteria about the requirement for a change of approach, and thus a change of assessment of the health status of the Revolutionary Armed Forces officers nowadays. The main viewpoints in this paper deal with obsolescence of the concept that health/disease phenomenon observed in the military context should not be considered as a linear phenomenon affecting all individuals in the same way. Within the determinism of imbalance that may take place between a previous health status prior to active military service in the Revolutionary Armed Forces and deterioration of health, one should take into account not only the inevitable things (genetically determined) but also the avoidable things (conditioned by risk factors impact)directly related to workpost where the individuals work for more or less long periods in contact with unique techniques and functions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. The first reflection should lead to the need of designing the monitoring methodology of health status, taking into consideration age, length of military service, sex and particularities of the workpost (professional risk).

Palabras clave : Health in the military context; operational health.
