An intervention study was carried out at “1ro de Mayo” Primary School, in the Los Sirios community, in Santa Clara, to determine the influence of educative work on the hygienic practices and the prevalence of parasitism in school children. The houses were visited and the parents of the children were surveyed to know the hygienic practices of the population and the hygienic-epidemiological conditions of the community. Starting from this, the educative work directed to parents was designed, and it was passed from research to action with the community participation. 133 school children from whom sample of feces and anal region were taken by Graham's method were studied. The prevalence of parasitism was 69.9 % and the Enterobius vermicularis was the most frequent. The predominating symptoms were anal pruritus and irritability, for which treatment was applied. Six months after the intervention, the coproparasitological tests were repeated in the children, and the parents were surveyed again. It was found a significant reduction of parasaitism, as well as positive modifications in the hygienic practices of the population.
