Background: In Cuba the services of social feeding are increased to the third age people and especially the ones that do not have family protection to improve their nutritional state and quality of life. Objective: To value the nutritional state in older adults belonging to the doctor's office # 32 in the north health area of Morón municipality, Ciego de Ávila. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study from January 1st to June 30, 2007 was carried out. The universe was constituted by all the older adults classified in the said doctor's office (266). A representative sample of 80 older adults was extracted, a survey designed according to the objectives proposed was applied to them and that included the following variables: age groups, sex, loss of weight in the last month, and complementaries. Results: Of the 80 grandfathers that constituted the sample, 52 belonged to the female sex (65%), 28 to the male one (35%), approximately the half were found normoweight 41(51,25) and four lost weight in the last month. The glycemia was normal in 51, the normal hemoglobin in 75 and the cholesterol was it in 74(92,5%). Conclusions: The female sex predominated and approximately the half were found overweight or obese.
