Background: the knowledge level on cranioencephalic trauma that have professionals of the primary health attention, is considered of great importance; not alone to guarantee an appropriate treatment for the aged with cranioencephalic trauma, but to develop promotion activities and prevention directed to diminish the incidence of risk factors. Objective: to apply an educational intervention on cranioencephalic trauma in a group of professionals of the primary health attention and to evaluate their results. Method: a descriptive study in seventy-five professionals of the primary health attention was carried out who were presented voluntarily to a call of postgraduate courses on cranioencephalic trauma, from March 2008 to March 2009. An initial diagnostic exam according to the deficiencies found was performed, two training courses were designed and at the end results were evaluated applying a knowledge survey used in the diagnosis. Results were compared before and after the training program, the average comparison test for paired samples was used in those variables evaluated quantitatively, with a significance level of 0,05. For variables with qualitative evaluation, McNemar test was used. Results: the initial diagnosis showed inadequacies in all the knowledge objectives, the qualification average was of 60.5 points with an index of quality of 8%. After training the average qualification improved to 87,4 points with an index of quality of 88%. Conclusions: the application of the educational intervention improved in a significant way the knowledge level on cranioencephalic trauma.
