An educational intervention was undertaken at the School of Special Education "Cástulo Acosta" of Mella municipality in Santiago de Cuba province, from January to April 2009, after identifying some factors that negatively affect the sexual development of adolescents at age 10 to 14 years with mild and moderate mental retardation, and then to try to modify them by means of educative actions. The excess of overprotection by parents who do not give them guidance on sexuality, as well as shortcomings in the implementation of sexual education activities by teachers predominated in the case material. The educational intervention program allowed increasing the level of knowledge in parents and teachers on this important issue.
