LAMBERT MATOS, Ramón. Interrelación de la epidemiología con la economía de salud. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 1996, vol.34, n.2, pp. 44-48. ISSN 1561-3003.

The experience attained in health planning an epidemiological bases is described. These aspects have been approached in Cuba by epidemiologists and specialists from other medical disciplines at the First and Second Workshops of Epidemiology and the Family Physician, where there have been formulated the guidelines of work, organization and health planning that were concretely expressed in the main document about the Objectives, Purposes and Guidelines (OPG) of Cuban Public Health for 200. It is also analyzed the economic link inthe three areas of the OPG, and it is made a descriptive and cross-sectional study of the fundamental health indicators in the country and in the province 3 years after their introduction, as well as of the costs by affections in these three areas. It was observed that the non communicable chronic diseases generated higher costs and that 6 of them decreased morkedly at the end of 1993. The hospitalization services showed a descending trend at the national and provincial level. The hospital ambulatory activity was reduced due to a significant improvement of the assistence given at the ambulatory institutions of primary health care.
