A method for the analysis of Cd in biological tisues by atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. The Cd was analyzed by using the electrothermic atomization with buckets of pyrolytic graphite, previous mineralization of samples with strong acids. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by analyzing as a reference material bovine liver 1557a certificated by the National Institute of Standardization and Technology (former National Bureau of Patterns) with a concentration of Cd of 0,44 " 0,02 mg/g. The concentration of Cd obtained through our analysis of the reference material was of 0,46 " 0,02 mg/g. The limits of quantification and detection were of 0,0004 mg/g and of 0,0001 mg/g, respectively.
