MUNOZ SOCA, . Rafael. Medicina familiar en el municipio 10 de Octubre y su repercusión en la salud infantil. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2002, vol.40, n.2, pp. 103-107. ISSN 1561-3003.

A descriptive study of some indicators measuring children’s health was conducted in the municpality of 10 de Octubre, Havana City. Data about the behavior of the selected indicators corresponding to 1998 were given by the municipal statistics department and by the municipal medical assistance subdivision. These data were compared with those of 1985 and 1990, which were previously published and studied. It was observed that the indicators improved in comparison with the last study. The reduction of infant and perinatal mortality and of children under 5 mortality were considerable. The behavior of the low birth weight index and of the survival in children under 5 was also positive. The increasing number of family physicians who are in charge of primary health care, as well as of specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine, is stressed, since it influences positively on the improvement of the health services received by the children of this territory.
