Resumen

GOMEZ D ´ANGELO, Yamiris Teresa; GONZALEZ GONZALEZ, María Isabel; CHIROLES RUBALCABA, Sergio  y  GARCIA CRUCET, Cosset. Microbiological quality of the water used at the Hemodialysis Unit of the Nephrology Institute. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2006, vol.44, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3003.

A total of 48 water samples from different points of the Hemodialysis Unit of the Nephrology Institute were analyzed aimed at evaluating their microbiological quality taking into account the risk it represents for the hemodyalysis patients. Different results were obtained in the total count of heterotrophic bacteria. The highest values of almost all the analyzed samples were concentrated in August, on being softened water the one that presented the most elevated count of heterotrophic bacteria with a value of 100 colony-forming units per mL (UFC/mL). However, the results obtained are not over 200 UFC/mL, which is the maximum limit reported for this type of water by the Association for the Advance of Medical Instruments of the United States of America (AAMI) . No Pseudomnas aeruginosas were detected in the samples analyzed.

Palabras clave : Microbiological quality; hemodialysis water; hemodialysis patients; Pseudomonas aeruginosas.
