Background: The detection of Staphylococcus aureus resistant to the methicillin is a tool for an appropriate to therapeutic procedure. The high incidence of infections that produces the Staphylococcus aureus and the complexity for its treatment constitutes the fundamental cause of this investigation. Objective: To identify the presence of Staphylococcus aureus resistant to the methicillin in patients' samples entered in the Hospital Camilo Cienfuegos from December 1st, 2011 to May 30 th, 2012. Methodology: It was carried out a traverse study that included 79 stumps of Staphylococcus aureus, to which were carried out a test of susceptibility by the method of Kirby-Bauer; the cefoxitin disk was used to detect resistance to the methicillin. Results: Of the 79 isolations for Staphylococcus aureus 75% came from the samples of the surgical services, and 50.6 % were resistant to methicillin. Of these last ones (40) 37.5 % was of the samples of blood, while 25 % to the purulent that drain to skin. The tetracycline (82.5 % vs 59 %) and the vancomycin (100 %) were the antimicrobic that showed bigger sensibility, either in the resistant stumps or not to the methicillin respectively. Conclusions: Half of the stumps of Staphylococcus aureus investigated were resistant to methicillin. The susceptibility to the antimicrobic showed high resistance percentages, except for vancomycin and tetracycline.
