This article refers to an investigation on the preparation of the teacher of Spanish as a foreign language for online teaching, within the framework of the study on the current state of the improvement of this teacher. The objective was to identify achievements and limitations in the professional performance of teachers of Spanish as a foreign language in public schools in Jamaica. A mixed methodological approach was used that integrates methods, measurement scales and quantitative and qualitative data. The methods, instruments and techniques to be used were survey, observation and interview. The research identifies limitations in the professional performance of this teacher, which are related to theoretical-methodological insufficiencies, making visible the needs to improve the content of the improvement for this teacher in the Jamaican education system.
