VALCARCE-ORTEGA, Rosa María; RODRIGUEZ-MIRANDA, Willy Roberto y JORGE-DIAZ, Zaida. Application of geoelectric parameters in the study of vulnerability for groundwater contamination. Min. Geol. [online]. 2020, vol.36, n.4, pp. 390-403. Epub 30-Dic-2020. ISSN 1993-8012.
In Cuba, groundwater represents 33 % of the available water resources; however, these resources are threatened by overexploitation and suffer degradation due to the impact of anthropic activities. The Arenas Algabaes aquifer is a potential source of supply to Trinidad city in Cuba. Vulnerability to contamination of this aquifer is evaluated in this article from the mapping of longitudinal conductance of the unsaturated zone. The map obtained allows us to identify areas from very low vulnerability, with longitudinal conductance values greater than 0,3 Siemens, to areas of very high vulnerability with longitudinal conductance values less than 0,06 Siemens. Developing these maps is a contribution to responsible planning of land use and to establish strategies for protecting groundwater.
