In this paper, the current assessment of the investment in renewable energies is critically analyzed, with a sustainable and socioeconomic approach being adopted. The literature reviewed, along with the analysis performed, suggests that there are several categories to which the assessment of the investment in this sector can be assigned, so that they provide knowledge to develop a future assessment procedure. Internationally held views on this matter are mostly shown. Regarding the situation in Cuba, some of the projects being developed in the province of Sancti Spiritus are shown in the last section.
