Trying to be effective is an endeavor made by any organization constantly. Regarding this subject this paper is aimed at systematizing precedents that justify the study of organizational effectiveness, particularly in higher education. In order to achieve this goal, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to collect experiences gained at home and abroad in assessing this indicator. It was found that assessment of organizational effectiveness is mostly done in the business sector, and that organizational effectiveness is assessed at universities on a quantitative basis, with subjective elements being not taken into consideration.
