The diagnosis of pests and diseases in different crops has been and is the greatest challenge for farmers and floriculturists in the country, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in the early analysis of these. The present work was based on the construction of an expert system for the diagnosis of pests and diseases in ornamental plants, with the objective of helping non-expert users and facilitating early analysis. For the purposes of this research, a descriptive research was assumed for the documentary review and a quantitative approach with the interview and survey method to determine needs in the determination of the characteristics of diseases and pests. For the development of the expert system, the stages of the ideal methodology were followed, and the ATOM tools were used, multiplatform code editor interface; PhpMyAdmin, MySQL database manager and PHP and HTML code were used for the application. The results showed that the expert system was able to diagnose 17 general diseases, 4 specific diseases and 11 pests in roses, carnation, orchid and tulip; it also allowed to validate and compare the diagnoses made by a human expert with those of the expert system. Consequently, it can be said that having an expert system for the diagnosis of pests and diseases reduces time and helps the non-expert user in the timely diagnosis and accurate treatment.
