The objective of this paper is to analyze the contemporary situation and development directions of cultural tourism in the mountainous areas of Azerbaijan. For this, the architectural and archaeological monuments of the world and national importance, economic-geographical regions, and administrative regions where they are located were identified in the article. Festivals, which are taken into consideration to be factors influencing the development of cultural tourism, as well as travel to areas inhabited by different ethnic groups were researched as well. The areas where archaeological excavations were carried out within the framework of highly valued examples of material culture in terms of the development of cultural tourism are also indicated. In the work, recommendations are made on how to make these places more attractive, and the possible impact of the development of this economic activity at both the local and state levels is highlighted.
