The theoretical foundations for continuous improvement of knowledge management in Ecuadorean universities and its impact on internal development and within the context of higher education institutions as a development tool were assessed. The study was initiated by reviewing the literature, and then analysis-synthesis to present the main epistemological elements to support continuous improvement of knowledge management in university processes.
