Resumen

LECHA ESTELA, Luis B.; SOLER TORRES, Edgardo; SANCHEZ SUAREZ, Luis M.  y  VERDECIA NARANJO, Yuslandis. Synoptic climatology of Cuba. Part 2: The Catalog of types of situations 1970-2022. Rev. Cubana Met. [online]. 2024, vol.30, n.1  Epub 01-Mar-2024. ISSN 2664-0880.

An update of the classification of the types of synoptic situations that influence Cuba is carried out, now considering the characteristics of its daily influence on the western and eastern halves of the country, over a long period of 53 years (1970 to 2022). The description of the characteristics of the types and subtypes of influential synoptic processes is presented, the structure that identifies them in the surface synoptic maps and at the 850 hPa level, as well as the basic principles to take into account during the subjective classification process. As novel elements are included: a validation method to detect possible errors or incompatibilities during the classification, taking into account the space-time dynamics of the synoptic processes that affect both regions of the country. Also, new criteria and recommendations were added, in order to guarantee the homogeneity and future updates of the Catalog database that actually contains 19,358 daily cases for the western and eastern halves of Cuba. The objective of the Catalog is to contribute to the general dissemination of new, updated and standardized knowledge, on the types of synoptic situations that influence the country, both within the specialized areas of the Institute of Meteorology, as well as in teaching activities and in other institutions linked to Meteorology.
