Resumen

ACOSTA MACHADO, Luis Fidel. Yankee Culture in Cuba (1902-1925): Between Acceptance and Rejection. UH [online]. 2017, n.284, pp. 106-117. ISSN 0253-9276.

The presence of American referents in the Cuban culture was a process that speeded up during the first half of the 20th century when Cuba was under American domination starting in the middle of the 19th century. Various American cultural aspects, such as the ones associated with religion, architecture, or play activities of different kinds, deeply permeated society in the Largest of the Antilles. However, Cubans in general didn't passively accept cultural penetration but took an active and critical stance by embracing things which they considered modernizing and beneficial to the Island, and criticizing and rejecting the ones considered damaging to national sovereignty and their own class interest. Narrators in the first half of this century didn't keep out of this process but reflected the said cultural presence in their works, as well as how Cubans perceived it.

Palabras clave : Cuban Narrative; The Imaginary; Representation.
