This paper examines types of masculinity, which are present in the major novels by Alejo Carpentier, with the aim of showing how this Cuban writer subtl y denounces male chauvinism. For this reason, he can be considered a writer well ahead of his time. Examples of the main figures of speech -antithesis and hyperbole- used by him in his denunciation are given.
