This paper is aimed at examining illocution and modality in a sample of notes written in back covers of academic books, as part of an editorial and scientific discourse, with two purposes. First, semantically analyzing academic discourse, and second, providing editors and other experts in this field with a paradigmatic semantic-discursive algorithm for senses of texts in academic books to be properly understood.
