The pandemic by COVID-19 has had many effects not only in terms of health, but also in terms of institutional and networks supports to health and social organization of care in general. Present paper presents preliminary findings regarding institutional characterization of social care strategies towards the elderly during the sanitary emergency. It includes experiences both from state institutional care and from private, families and other actors since March 2020. From a qualitative approach there was consulted a number of internet informative sites and pages in order to identify the experiences that caught public opinion and media interests. The information was completed by interviews to few representatives of those experiences. As a first stage of research, and adjusted to the context of COVID-19, it was analyzed the agents in charge for social care to elders, their alliances, their resources in place, the concrete actions, as well as the challenges and opportunities they face. As this kind of experiences increased due to the vulnerability elders encounter during covid-19, findings highlight that social care to elders in the lapse characterized by being multi-actor, with high potential but low implementation of alliances, and they showed the need for enhancing the actions, their reach, and their resources. It was acknowledged the spontaneity of some experiences, that makes them face risks regarding their sustainability in terms of material and human resources.
