DAVILA CABO DE VILLA,, Evangelina. Approaches to anesthesia and Parkinson's disease. Medisur [online]. 2021, vol.19, n.2, pp. 268-273. Epub 30-Abr-2021. ISSN 1727-897X.
The anesthesiologist in his daily work cares for patients of different ages, among which is the elderly population, that goes through a series of changes long process, such as a decrease in functional reserves, in the ability to respond to certain stimuli, comorbidities and, in a not inconsiderable way, neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, which generally manifests with tremor at rest, rigidity, a characteristic alteration of gait and posture. Therapy is aimed at controlling the symptoms caused by the imbalance between dopaminergic inhibition and cholinergic excitation, so the anesthesiologist's strategy should focus on achieving a stable perioperative period and avoiding the exacerbation of motor and non-motor symptoms. This review is aimed at the anesthesiologist performance in Parkinson disease patients, with the aim of highlighting the anesthetic implications.
