Appearance plays an important role in human interrelations, and it has occasionally been associated with professional and social success. In the past, plastic surgery was examined from a point of view that change the essential sense of its purposes. Some have stated that plastic surgery has no curative ends, while others have come to the extreme to affirm that it leaves the field of Medicine to enter the field of vanity and illusion. The authors, aware of the need to go deep into the knowledge of this topic, presented this paper to contribute to reflect on some ethical aspects related to aesthetic surgery in the present society. A bibliographic review on the historical and ethical issues connected with beauty and aesthetic surgery was made.
