FONG GALA, Irene; REYES MEDINA, Gladys E; MELIAN TORRES, Ruber Juan  y  CREACH ORTEGA, Enrique. Actuación de enfermería en el paciente diabético con afección vascular periférica. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.3, pp. 196-200. ISSN 1561-2961.

A descriptive and retrospective study of 47 diabetic patients with peripheral vascular injury in the lower limbs that were admitted in the Angiology Service of the "Dr. Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo" Clinical and Surgical Provincial Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba, during the first four months of 1997, was conducted aimed at obtaining enough theoretic and practical information to give them a comprehensive attention. Age, sex, cause of admission, procedence, time of evolution and type of diabetes, related diseases, surgical procedure and length of stay were among the variables used. The primary datum was extracted from the medical histories. It was manually processed and represented by means of percentages as summary measure. More than half of the patients were between the sixth and the seventh decade of life, with a predominance of the female sex, of the neuroinfectious diabetic foot as the main reason for admission, of the evolution time from 11 to 20 years, and of those classified as insulin-dependent patients. Almost two thirds of the patients were operated on with a minimum of complications.

Palabras clave : DIABETES MELLITUS/ [nursing]; PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASES [nursing].
