A study of case and controls mached 1:1 with the aim of knowing the behavior of some risk factors of the arterial hypertension was carried out in a health clinic belonging to " Concepción Agramonte" teaching Polyclinic from Florida Municipality within the period from january to december, 1999. The case group was composed of 180 patients registered with the diagnosis of arterial hypertension and the control group with the same number of subjects who did not suffer this disease, and belonged to the said health clinic whit the same sex and age group. They all completed a questionary including some variables selected; data were processed by a computer. It was found a prevalence of patients of 60 years old and over (47,5%) and femenine sex (62,5%). Rsik factors with greater level of association were alcoholism (31,25%), smoking habit (61,25%) and obesity (32,5%).
