Background: A prospective, descriptive study was conducted at the “Ana Betancourt de Mora” Maternity Hospital City of Camagüey, to assess the outcomes of preterm parturition. The universe was chosen form childbearing women (21- 36.6 weeks) who amounted to 197, and were aged 26.4-64. Of them 104 (51.2 %) had no previous delivery, 89 were assessed as bearers of low weigh children (45.1 %), 119 had insufficient gain (60.4 %). Vaginal infection was the most frequent associated disease in the sample (41.6 %); 108 (54.8 %) had preterm amniotic sac breakage. The highest amount of deliveries occurred after week 33, 188 deliveries (70 %). 55 patients suffered from transient respiratory depression (27.9 %), whereas 23 (11.6) suffered from after week 33 hyaline membrane disease (11.1 %), main cause of morbility in newborns, 11(5.5 %) suffered from anemia 6 (0.3 %) suffered form raffia dehiscence. Our study confirmed the need for research in and control of risk factors for preterm birth, such as cervicovaginal infection, which not only causes the morbility rate to rise among women-particularly among childbearing ones but also has sequelae such ad low birth weight and preterm secondary immaturity, either directly or through preterm amniotic membrane break age.
