Resumen

MARTINEZ PADILLA, Silvia de los Ángeles; TAN SUAREZ, Nerys; ALONSO MONTES DE OCA, Carmen  y  MAS SARABIA, Maheli. Caries caused mortality associated to biologic risk factors in children. AMC [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.1, pp. 97-105. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: A descriptive, causal research was conducted to determine caries-caused morbidity associated to risk factors for children aged 6-14 cared for at the Family Physician’s Office 38, a branch office of the Ismael Clark Mascaro Teaching Dental Clinic, Municipality of Camagüey. Both the universe and the 52-child sample coincided. Through CEO-d and COP-D indexes, caries prevalence and influence of risk factors for disease onset were assessed. Microbiologic tests were conducted and patients were sorted by risk for caries. 55.7 % of children had dental caries; 67.3 % showed poor mouth care habits and 53.8 % had a cariogenic diet. 53.8 % of caries-striken patients showed acid dissolution susceptible enamel whereas 52 % showed neutral saliva. We conclude that caries prevailed in both dentitions; that poor mouth care habits plus a cariogenic diet prevailed; and that low-resistant and acid dissolution-susceptible enamel prevailed.

Palabras clave : DENTAL CARIES; MORBIDITY; RISK FACTORS; CHILD.
