A descriptive study was conducted at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech. Teaching Hospital with the objective of assessing the incidence rate of thoraculumbar spinal fracture in such a hospital. In the study, which spanned 10 years, 395 patients were enrolled. Traumatic fractures amounted to 68,6 % of the sample 35,18% of patients from this group were aged 15 to 30,whereas 19,49% of patients from the pathologic fractures group were aged 31 to 55. 78,22% of patients being surveyed showed no neurologic lesion. 54,98 % of patients with pathologic fractures underwent surgery whereas 82,25 % of patients with pathologic fracture underwent conservative treatment The afore mentioned statistics show the impact of thoracolumbar fractures, chiefly those of a traumatic etiology, upon society and upon healthcare services.
